Pierre Elliott Trudeau Airport will be the gateway into the region for most international visitors, with multiple transatlantic flights going to and from the airport every day. It's 12 miles from the bustling center of Montreal’s Downtown, and journeys into the city center via taxi can be a little pricey, so it’s advisable to use the airport’s shuttle service instead. Taking between 45 minutes to an hour to reach the city center, the 747 service operates 24 hours a day, and makes stops at the Berri-UQAM Metro Station. From here trains can whisk you to your final destination.

Travel by water often provided more comfort and speed than land-travel, at least until the advent of a network of railways in the 19th century. Travel for the purpose of tourism is reported to have started around this time when people began to travel for fun as travel was no longer a hard and challenging task. This was capitalised on by people like Thomas Cook selling tourism packages where trains and hotels were booked together.[10] Airships and airplanes took over much of the role of long-distance surface travel in the 20th century, notably after the second World War where there was a surplus of both aircraft and pilots.[7]
Of the many architectural jewels in ‘The City of Saints’, the Notre Dame-Basilica is the most opulent. Built in the Gothic Revival style, the church’s gilt-laden interior is adorned with rich blues, intricate carvings, and grand stained glass windows. Stretching across the riverfront in Old Montreal you’ll find the Old Port. With upmarket boutiques and haute cuisine restaurants, the historic hub is also home to the Montreal Clock Tower. For top notch entertainment, find your seat at the Place des Arts. With musicals, theater, and opera gracing the program, its contemporary outdoor plaza is the epicenter of Montreal’s biggest cultural festivals. If sport is more your thing, then see what’s on at the Bell Center. The 21,000-seater arena is home to the Montreal Canadians ice hockey team, and hosts numerous other sporting events. If all that leaves you feeling a little fatigued however, then Mount Royal Park offers 200 hectares of leafy, unspoiled tranquility.
A love hotel (also 'love motel', especially in Taiwan) is a type of short-stay hotel found around the world, operated primarily for the purpose of allowing guests privacy for sexual activities, typically for one to three hours, but with overnight as an option. Styles of premises vary from extremely low-end to extravagantly appointed. In Japan, love hotels have a history of over 400 years.[20]
To call Montreal merely the Paris of North America is to sell it short. True, the island in the Saint Lawrence River has the architecture, the food and joie de vivre of the French capital, but it is a mix of more than 40 ethnic groups, a complicated history and a vibrant and edgy bohemian scene that confounds that description. Canadians taking trips to Montreal are truly escaping to another world for a weekend adventure or a much-need vacation.
This hotel is central to many things and has great access to the subway if needing to go out of the immediate area! The staff are always polite and helpful. We don’t speak very good French and the staff accomidated to that and spoke in the near English they could. The area in which the hotel is in is very diverse and a great experience! Overall I recommend this hotel!

Travel in the Middle Ages offered hardships and challenges, however, it was important to the economy and to society. The wholesale sector depended (for example) on merchants dealing with/through caravans or sea-voyagers, end-user retailing often demanded the services of many itinerant peddlers wandering from village to hamlet, gyrovagues (Wandering Monks) and wandering friars brought theology and pastoral support to neglected areas, travelling minstrels practiced the never-ending tour, and armies ranged far and wide in various crusades and in sundry other wars.[7] Pilgrimages were common in both the European and Islamic world and involved streams of travellers both locally (Canterbury Tales-style) and internationally.[9]
They are very useful if you call them, they send very detailed emails and do follow ups if you have something on hold in a timely fashion. On one of my trips I had to postpone my fight thanks to visa delays (no longer an issue with my Canadian passport!) and my travel agent with Gala was very helpful in hooking me up with the best alternate flight and while I had to pay a fee it was a painless process overall.

Ornate 17th century architecture, winding cobbled streets, designer stores, and fine restaurants: Old Montreal exists at a horse-drawn pace and exudes French romance. Among museums and galleries, here you’ll find the ostentatious grandeur of the Notre-Dame Basilica. For an altogether trendier affair, hipsters and fashionistas should opt for a hotel in Montreal’s Plateau Mont Royal. Bohemian and artsy, the tone is set by relaxed shopping and café culture by day and a spirited party scene by night. Perhaps livelier still is the vibrant Latin Quarter. The sassy district is home to culture and cocktails, fashionable boutiques, and all the color and charisma of the neighboring gay village.

The first recorded purpose-built railway hotel was the Great Western Hotel, which opened adjacent to Reading railway station in 1844, shortly after the Great Western Railway opened its line from London. The building still exists, and although it has been used for other purposes over the years, it is now again a hotel and a member of the Malmaison hotel chain.[21][22][23]

Facilities offering hospitality to travellers have been a feature of the earliest civilizations. In Greco-Roman culture and ancient Persia, hospitals for recuperation and rest were built at thermal baths. Japan's Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan, founded in 705, was officially recognised by the Guinness World Records as the oldest hotel in the world.[1] During the Middle Ages, various religious orders at monasteries and abbeys would offer accommodation for travellers on the road.
A small historical, boutique hotel right in the middle of “old town.” Even though the original hotel was built in the 1700’s, it had been totally renovated so the rooms are very comfortable with updated bathrooms. We appreciated having a nice complimentary breakfast available each morning—pastries, fruit, quiche, sausages, and fruit as well as coffee and juice. Friendly and accommodating staff. Great hotel for exploring Montreal.
The Waldorf-Astoria Hotel and its affiliated Waldorf Towers has been the home of many famous persons over the years including former President Herbert Hoover who lived there from the end of his presidency in 1933 until his death in 1964. General Douglas MacArthur lived his last 14 years in the penthouse of the Waldorf Towers. And the composer Cole Porter also spent the last 25 years of his life in an apartment at the Waldorf Towers.

Gala Travels has been nothing but a horrible headache!!  The company takes larger deposits than have been verified with guests, they don't update you with information or schedule changes.  They have horrible customer service and refuse to take responsibility for any problems that they cause.  Terrible, Terrible agency, will never book anything with them again, would never recommend them to anyone either!
Some English towns had as many as ten such inns and rivalry between them was intense, not only for the income from the stagecoach operators but for the revenue for food and drink supplied to the wealthy passengers. By the end of the century, coaching inns were being run more professionally, with a regular timetable being followed and fixed menus for food.[3]
A number of hotels have entered the public consciousness through popular culture, such as the Ritz Hotel in London, through its association with Irving Berlin's song, 'Puttin' on the Ritz'. The Algonquin Hotel in New York City is famed as the meeting place of the literary group, the Algonquin Round Table, and Hotel Chelsea, also in New York City, has been the subject of a number of songs and the scene of the stabbing of Nancy Spungen (allegedly by her boyfriend Sid Vicious).

The word hotel is derived from the French hôtel (coming from the same origin as hospital), which referred to a French version of a building seeing frequent visitors, and providing care, rather than a place offering accommodation. In contemporary French usage, hôtel now has the same meaning as the English term, and hôtel particulier is used for the old meaning, as well as "hôtel" in some place names such as Hôtel-Dieu (in Paris), which has been a hospital since the Middle Ages. The French spelling, with the circumflex, was also used in English, but is now rare. The circumflex replaces the 's' found in the earlier hostel spelling, which over time took on a new, but closely related meaning. Grammatically, hotels usually take the definite article – hence "The Astoria Hotel" or simply "The Astoria."
